Hello, I’m Liz Herrera – your dedicated career coach and ally in your job search journey. My mission is clear: to guide clients and job seekers towards a profound awareness of their inherent strengths, professional value, and authentic career purpose. My ultimate goal is to empower clients to take charge of their career through self-discovery and exploration, enabling them to confidently market their professional brand.

With over 15 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients – from early careerists navigating their first steps to seasoned professionals across various disciplines. I find immense joy in assisting and empowering clients to embark on a “focused” and “intentional” job search while staying true to their strengths, career interests and purpose. My coaching approach is rooted in a strengths-based methodology, providing the tools and resources necessary for clients to build the confidence required to pave their unique careers.

My Story: I am a first-generation Latina – Mexican American, proud of my roots in Chicago.

My journey to becoming a career coach wasn’t always clear. I grappled with identifying my strengths and talents, often overlooking my own abilities while recognizing others’. After college, without specific career aspirations, I found myself in an administrative role at a non-profit organization. Realizing it wasn’t the right fit, a teaching opportunity emerged at the organization’s alternative high school. Here, I discovered my passion for coaching students through academic and personal challenges, eventually leading to my role as their Career Counselor. Witnessing their potential and encouraging them to pursue higher education remains a highlight.

Throughout my career, I’ve consistently championed students and clients to recognize their potential, urging them to step beyond their comfort zones to achieve career advancement.

Currently serving as the Director of Career Development at the University of Illinois Chicago, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, I’ve dedicated over 15 years to the field, including establishing the School of Public Health Career Services Office.

I am genuinely enthusiastic about guiding professionals through their career journeys, equipping them with the essential tools for an effective job search. Let’s embark on this transformative journey together!
